8 reasons to attend WTJU’s Freefall concerts at IX Art Park
Here are eight great reasons to come out to Freefall concerts:
1. They're the best free local events this fall.
We put the "free" in Freefall. Every Saturday from August 31 through October 5 at the IX Art Park, 522 2nd Street SE.
2. To expand your musical taste.
Freefall's full 6-week lineup includes reggae, rock, roots, blues, Latin, funk, folk, and more. It's the most musically diverse festival around!
3. To expand your food & drink taste, too.
We've got Three Notch'd Brewery and hard cider on tap, plus local wine, Vitae Spirits, and a raft of soft drinks.
Sate your hunger with a rotating cast of Freefall food trucks. New this year: each week, we've got a special food truck just for kid-friendly drinks & snacks.
4. Going to live concerts increases your health and well-being.
Our brains need music, so this makes sense. Recent research says so, too. Peer review pending.
5. Extended festival days that reflect our community.
This year, we're doubling down on themed festivals that celebrate the wonderful and varied parts of our community:
Aug 31: Zaltandi World Dance Festival. Showcasing the beauty of cultures in our community through dance
Sept 7: Lovefest. On the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, sharing gifts and nurturing trust, gratitude, and love
Sept 14: Black Business Expo. Celebrating and supporting local black-owned businesses
Sept 21: Cville Sabroso. Festival of Latin music, culture, art, and dance
Sept 28: Roots Music | Local Food. Harvesting local folk music and local food
Oct 5: Virginia Blues Festival. The first annual!
6. Concerts are family-friendly.
Kids love Freefall. Parents love Freefall. Everybody in between and beyond loves Freefall. Bring your friends and family!
This year, each Freefall concert will feature an inflated bounce house, a coloring/craft tent, and a special food truck just for kids.
Well-behaved and leashed dogs are also welcome.
7. Sometimes there are fire dancers.
Gape at the talented performance artists joining us for Freefall alongside the excellent live music.
Be sure to explore the IX Art Park and get creative. Write a note on the "Before I Die" wall. Play the giant outdoor chimes. Take it all in.
8. You matter to this community.
WTJU's brings people together through excellent shared music experiences. Freefall concerts are a key way we strengthen our community's fabric.
You matter to this community. You are part of this fabric. Celebrate this community and make it stronger at Freefall.
See you on Saturdays starting August 31.
